This year's World Youth Skills Day theme is "Skills for a shared future."
The spotlight in 2026 is on a balanced set of competencies — technical, digital, AI, green, social-emotional, and civic — the mix a young person now needs not just to find work but to shape the future of it. India, home to the largest youth population on earth, has the most to gain from getting this right, and the most to organise.
For an institution, backing that mission is not only about launching skill courses. It is about the unglamorous scaffolding underneath: mapping a skill to a credit, recording it against a student's record, and issuing a credential a future employer can actually verify. The National Credit Framework already imagines skills and degrees sitting on one ledger. Whether a campus can deliver on that promise comes down to whether its systems can hold the record.
A skill a student earned but the institution cannot prove is a skill only half-delivered. The best thing a college can do for a young person's future is make their learning legible — countable, portable, and unmistakably theirs.
To every student building skills for a future none of us can fully see: keep going. Our job is to make sure the system remembers everything you earn.
